Tea

I like tea. I’d love to try Portsmouth Tea as I’ve only heard good things about it. Right now I am drinking a lot of red raspberry leaf tea (like a pregnant mama ought!) and my old standard, Good Earth Original. What’s in your cup?

  1. kristin, do you sweeten the rd. rasp. tea? i don’t usually sweeten tea, but i bought some and made a cup recently, and it seemed a little bitterish. does sweetening lessen the medicinal effects, i wonder? :)

  2. Right now, green tea brewed for an hour with a piece of ginger to prevent bitterness. I also love the peach, lychee, and rose petal black teas from Silk Road Teas in Victoria, and good old Earl Grey is the standby in our household. For a treat: chocolate mint rooibos.

  3. Kristen, fyi, a dear friend from our OP church in Raleigh is now a purveyor of fine coffee and tea- if you’re interested you can order ahead and pick it up next time you’re in town so you don’t have to pay shipping.

Oh, and I’m afraid I only have coffee in my cup for now… tea takes more discipline for me to prepare and enjoy, so I’m hoping that maybe this winter I can try out some good herbal/decaf in the evenings after the boys are in bed… red raspberry sounds yummy!

  4. Funny. I am currently drinking tea.

Favourites are British or Welsh or Irish of English Breakfast (they basically all are the same to me), Black Current, disgustingly enough, I actually really like the taste of Mother’s Milk Tea, which is convienent as I have to drink a lot of it. Really like Emperor’s Blend from Tea Source in Minneapolis. Love Earl Gray. Like Brides Blend from Magnolia and Ivy in Destin, Florida.

  5. I haven’t had tea in months but I am a lover of lemon, Sweet Dreams (I think it’s Bigelow), and chai — I am a chai junkie!

  6. I like the Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice which is only available around Christmas. Must add sugar though. I also like their Apple Spice. Obviously I like cheap flavored tea :)

  7. I’m drinking Peach Apricot Honeybush Tea. Mmm-mmm good. However, you’re scoring major points with me, Kristen, because my all time fav tea is Good Earth. Must buy more!!

  8. Chamomile, Tetley’s British Blend, Republic of Tea’s Ginger Peach, and chai. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet mastered the are of making chai at home, so I usually only drink it when I wander over to Caribou. If anyone has a really great Chai recipe, I’d love to hear it!

  9. Vanilla Rooibis
    Decaf Earl Gray
    Peppermint
    CS Vanilla Hazelnut
    CS English Toffee

all with lots of cream and no sugar

  10. Florida Orange Rooibos neat

  11. I do sweeten my red raspberry leaf tea. I am not the biggest fan of the taste!

  12. We’ve been icky-sicky here for several days now, and nothing’s been more soothing than:

Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat Slippery Elm Tea

    and

Hot Chamomile with Honey and Lemon

  13. you guys using my teacup? Just a warning if you haven’t. I tried to use one that Kristin got me and it cracked all the way up the side. So pour over the sink!

  14. Peppermint, CS Vanilla Caramel (with a little milk and sugar), and Orange Spice

  15. Good Earth is one of my favorites too! It’s one of the rare herbal teas that tastes very much like it smells…mmmmm… that’s a good one for evening for me

I’m also a fan of Green teas – I’ve got a box of – oh, I forget the brand right now – green tea with mint that is YUMMY. I’m not wedded to a green tea brand, so any suggestions? I tend to pick up whatever’s on sale…

But nothing beats plain old black tea with milk for this tea-lover. I love British PG Tips, and have actually found a place to buy them here in NC! Hooray! They’ve got a lot of flavor and the bags are pyramid-shaped, so apparently they act like little teapots in and of themselves (or so the marketing claims…)

  16. i’m liking rooibos, too. i have lots of varieties–orange, mango, etc. i like using loose leaves with a little diffuser.

  17. Last night I heralded the season with a Starbuck’s peppermint mocha, only to discover that this year, I’m not a fan. Guess I’ll just stick to my latte.

Yorkshire Gold tea. Mother’s Milk tea. And hot apple cider have been frequent guests in my cup recently.

  18. I’m drinking Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice, too. Although coffee with vanilla and milk has been my “wake-up” morning drink several days this week.

  19. I love Dandelion Root tea (Alvita) and Traditional Medicinals Organic Echinacea.

  20. I don’t do well with daily caffeine so I drink decaf at home – Bigleow Decaf Earl Grey and Mint Medley and Lipton Quietly Chamomile.

When I’m out I like regular Earl Grey, Constant Comment or English Breakfast. If there is a small selection I am always happy with Lipton!

I drink my tea plain – no milk or sugar – but I tried a cup of chai at Borders last year and found it surprisingly tasty!

  22. Carol in Oregon

    Peppermint
    Stash Vanilla Almond Decaf.

I’m going to write several of these down. There’s nothing like good tea.

  23. Lipton- Sweet Iced Tea

  24. Reba,

    Already made in the bottle?

Most southerners I know HATE mass produced bottled sweet tea… especially Lipton and Nestea.

  25. Okay, did Portsmouth Tea just offer to send you free stuff for blogging? That’s very cool.

  26. Serina,
They offered to send everyone who blogged about them in a 48 hr. period tea, so I am not THAT special, but it is pretty darn cool!

  27. no way, not bottled!! pitchered by reba. mass produced tea is dead to me.

  28. *PHEW* I was worried. I knew your mama must have taught you better ;o)

Speaking of Southern sweet tea and your family… I’ve been trying to take Mike to Holden’s for barbeque, Brunswick Stew and sweet tea for months and every time we make plans to go, they are inexplicably closed. He is very distraught about this. Smithfield’s is fine, but it’s not Holden’s…

  29. Oh, I only saw this now, but I had a nice English Breakfast on a cold afternoon last week. One of my favorite parts of studying in Oxford for a summer was having tea every afternoon and getting to go to a fancy tea house one day for a “real” British tea with all the delicious fixings…

I try to only drink caffeinated beverages on occasion, so right now I have some decaf green tea on hand and a CS fruit assortment someone gave me when they moved out and didn’t want theirs anymore.

I got hooked on Constant Comment when I worked as a receptionist because they always had a bountiful supply of individual bags in the break room and I had a mandatory hour long lunch break in which to enjoy it (along with a nice book).

Now that I’m teaching full-time, my tea moments are few and far between, but since tonight is cold and rainy here in ATL and I’m home alone for the evening, I have been inspired to brew an individual cup of some British Earl Grey I have stashed in the cupboard.

And your thread has also inspired me to ask for a teapot for Christmas, since I’m limited to making only one cup for now. I must try the Porstmouth Tea Co. as well. Yay for tea!
