Dress Distractions

I spent a good deal of time last week sewing dresses for the girls. I am pretty pleased with them, but I think I’ll add some more ric rac about an inch from the hem. The girls weren’t in the modeling mood when I tried to get some pictures, but they did get a lot of compliments at church.  Mostly because they were so BRIGHTLY matching!

  1. I LOVE THEM!!!

    TOO CUTE!!!

  2. Very cute! Did you just make up your own pattern?

  3. Love it! Great fabric choice… I can definitely see how you’d get compliments on the dresses.

  4. Really really pretty! Love all the photography of late.

  5. Tricia,
The pattern is children’s corner lucy – seen here if you scroll down: http://www.handmades.com/childrenscorner3.html

Lucy can be a sundress or a jumper for the winter, and you can also cut it off at the waist to make a shirt to go with capris. It’s pretty versatile, and very classic! I hope to make several a year so I think I’ll get my money’s worth.

  6. So darling! I love the dress and the fabric, too. Good job :)

  7. Thanks everyone! I don’t really enjoy the sewing part THAT much (the little part of me that is perfectionistic definitely comes out while sewing) but the gratification of putting the girls in something I’ve made (and Kate’s excitement about it) is definitely worth the sewing angst. And all of your sweet comments are the icing on the cake.

I’ve already picked out fabric to make fall/winter jumpers in (still lightweight, this is the Deep South!) – brown with apples and pears. I think it will look fun… I don’t think Mike loves the swatch.

  8. Hi Kristen, thought since you commented on my blog a couple of times lately I would stop by and leave a note. I’ve actually been a regular visitor for a while, through Tricia. I love the dresses as well, it’s my dream to learn to sew, I have the machine, just not the skill. Those adorable dresses are an inspiration for sure!

  9. wow, what a talented mum your daughters have!

You know what else would be cute? To scallop the edges at the bottom hem following the bottom edges of the dots. I realize this would be a TON of work… but would be cute if you had all the time in the world. (BTW- I am sending your CD tomorrow.)
