. no words .

In light of this local tragedy and Heather’s recent post about her journey, I wanted to remind all my readers that postpartum depression is a very real and very serious condition. If you think you may be suffering from it, please seek help. The local woman was a friend of a friend. If you would, pray for her husband, Chip.

  1. Tears. . .

I don’t want to scare new mothers. . . but at the same time, I wish everyone would read what Heather wrote.

  2. Thanks for posting about this. I just wrote an article for our denom’s magazine “Forward in Christ” about my PPD experience after the birth of my 3rd baby. I was told by one of the editors to prepare myself for “hate” mail. I wasn’t surprised by that fact, but it’s so sad that instead of being proactive in helping women with PPD, we add shame to it all….especially in the church.

I didn’t get help for almost a year…the fear of judgment & stigma was more than I could handle at the time. Looking back, I realize how foolish I was…but there is just so much fear for women who are in the depths of PPD. It’s hard to get the help that is so desperately needed…and that is why we have the stories of mothers killing their children. It’s all so sad–mainly because it many cases, it’s preventable.
