I made a doll for Kate’s sweet friend Frances’ fourth birthday. It was pretty easy and lots of fun. I’ve never sewn a doll or embroidered anything, and it wasn’t very difficult at all. I used this pattern. Here’s how it turned out:

I could hug you for posting this! I have 8 nieces, 7 of whom would adore these dolls. I also have a closet full of fabric scraps and embroidery thread. And possibly some batting lying around somewhere. viola! free Christmas presents!

i’m making these for my girls in children’s church. i was thinking of embroidering faces instead of paint, but i’ve never done it and don’t have a clue where to start… any suggestions?
Embroidery is really easy to teach yourself, I learned with http://www.sublimestitching.com/books.html this book, but whatever the library has will probably work! Or, bring a tea towel, needle, floss and hoop to barnes and noble for an hour and just look at the book :)
