In honor of WBW, I’ll make my contribution to your efforts. I found this article on Yahoo News about the furor surrounding the big-as-Dallas photo of a baby nursing a mama’s breast on the cover of the latest issue of BabyTalk magazine.
I think your discussion about adequate support for nursing mothers is pretty good. We talk about this until we’re breathless, but Stephen might’ve nursed better if Adrienne had had more education and proactive “training” (for lack of a better word) in the art of nursing. Lexie nursed much better, and we think a) because she’s just a better eater – Stephen would probably never eat if he could get away with it – that’s a blessing from my point of view!! and b) because we insisted before we left the hospital with Lexie that we have someone come in and help out and consult. Supposedly the hospital where both our kids were born was supposed to have this great lactation consultant – well, we never saw her despite my strident requests…we got a very patient nursery nurse who was very helpful and wanted to make sure Lexie latched on properly before we were discharged.
I think that second time I posted it it might’ve worked, but they changed the article and the URL – reason for the change appears to be that Yahoo pulled down its printing of the picture, because it showed the cover before. Hmmm….
What is This Classical Life? A weblog about all the beautiful things in life, like books, food and community. It is written by Kristen, a newly-minted Memphian who is married to Michael and mother to two school-aged girls.
Why This Classical Life? Why not? The domain was bought a long time ago, the name came out of Michael's classics background and a love for WBEZ's This American Life.
Lovely choice!
And have to add, I LOVE your new header!
