ok, Kristen Brad and I are joining this. We have cut our cable so I think the amount of reading in our house will exponentially increase. We are both readers but will begin to try and post reviews as we finish books and will also keep a running list of what we have read. I am a little intimidated by your reading and writing but we are game.

It is a good incentive for me to finish books to have a list to check things off of, it’s accountability even if it’s a bit more goal oriented that true reading for pleasure. It helps me to stick with things worth sticking with (for example, books I’m 2/3 of the way through and feel like I’ve gleaned most of the good stuff from and starting to get antsy) though it doesn’t compel me to read things I really hate.

I like the idea of being more purposeful in my reading. I’ve gotten in such a habit of picking up/putting down whichever books catch my fancy. Hmmm. . . Seems like my websurfing habits have translated into how I’m approaching books. While we could probably think of a opsitive point or two in that, overall I’m confident it’s Not a Good Thing.

Oh, Kristen, that’s one of the things I miss–the Birmingham Area Public Library system where they would deliver books from across the state– my local “DeKalb County system” here even in this big metropolis just can’t match it for efficiency and availability.

I wish I’d known that you wanted to read Foucoult’s Pendulum. There was a nice used copy at the used book store in NC.

I’d like to join– I don’t know if my quantity of books will change (I read about 35 last year– without a baby!) but I’d definitely like the quality to improve. We have so many books on our “to read shelf,” though, that I’m a bit daunted about where to start. I’ll try the link you suggested and see if it will help organize my plans! Thanks!

Funny, I referenced you in the comments section before I ever saw this post. I applaud your reading and only wish that I had planned my reading better at a younger age.

I’ve been considering since the first time you posted about this and I think I will participate… I’ll be reading 12 books for book club this year (6 fiction, 6 non), plus several just for fun, including four Wimsey novels I haven’t read yet. We’re about to finish The Princess and Curdie and I might just share about that one as well : )
