I’m done designing other people’s Christmas cards (I guess, I’m not closed for orders and I can rush ship it and have everything to someone in 4 business days…) so I finally did ours. It’s different than the ones in the portfolio, for the sake of surprise. I should be addressing envelopes but I’m searching intensely for a car. Oh, well. They’ll be out before Christmas eve.

Winged Feet Design (my little work-at-home venture) just announced a pretty significant and exciting change: all of our full-service announcements will now be printed by an outstanding printing house in either 5×7 or 5×5 square instead of the old 4×6. More information on the orders page of the website. I’m really glad I could institute this change before the holiday season. The quality difference from our previous printing places (local big box or drug stores) is very pronounced and I’m glad to be able to offer the very best to all of my customers. We have and will continue to offer a design-only option for customers who’d prefer to print themselves for the best deal and we will continue to design those in 4×6 or any other size you’d like. To celebrate this change, I’m offering 15% off holiday announcements ordered by November 5th. Just send me your pictures, text and ideas by the end of the day November 5th and I’ll apply the discount.

So, I’m still designing photo announcements. I haven’t spent a dime on advertising (in print or on the web) but I’m considering it for the Christmas season. I’m also considering doing some sort of contest and giving away a free Christmas photo card design… I don’t want to just do “if you link me on your blog, you get a free entry.” Any ideas? My working idea at the moment is: share why you love sending and receiving Christmas cards on your blog between x and y dates, include a link to WFD (probably will design a contest button or something) and the best entry gets a free custom photo christmas card design and one random entrant gets a $20 gift certificate to WFD.

I make a lot of “practice” birth announcements to give people ideas. All of my designs are truly custom, but it’s nice to give some springboards for people to see what they like. There’s some “real” stuff in there, too.

Reasons I have been more or less a blogging slacker lately:
1. I have a six week old and a 19 month old to chase.
2. We’re thinking about buying a house, again, and I’m busy scoping out neighborhoods and doing research.
3. I did a big birth announcement mailing (last few will go out in tomorrow’s mail!)
