Our Plastic Oceans
This article is rightly everywhere. Why is everyone so hyper-focused on global warming or the lack thereof when almost every particle of plastic ever made still exists? We’ve got to get the plastic problem under control.

Recovery is dull. I lay and listen to the ceiling fan rat-a-tat-tat-tat, yielding to involuntary patterns of sleep. I have discovered the value of unread fiction, yarn stashes and rainy day projects tucked away. I await books being held at the library. There is a dress to smock, but it aggravates my shoulder, which continues to hurt. Oh, there is pain: aching, itching, throbbing. There is also the sharp pains of coughing, laughing, breathing too deeply. Now, I know the value of narcotics, their numbing and distraction. It’s time to sleep.
This post is for those who like medical details, feel free to skip this if you aren’t curious about that stuff. I had appendicitis. Now I don’t. (more…)
Our sweet home state is in a major drought, and our Kindermusik class has adapted to this with gusto. Instead of telling the rain to go away, we sing “Rain, rain, we like rain, all the plants are glad you came.” It sprinkled yesterday and Kate was ecstatic and started to sing this song immediately. It cracked me up.

I really appreciated this NYT article about toy manufacturing. Another reason to prefer natural toys over mass-produced ones.
I am so thankful that my life is filled with exemplary fathers, my own and the father of my girls. You guys make me so proud. Happy Father’s Day to all!
It’s started to sink in that I am actually working in the fall. Yes, it’s only 4 hours, two days a week, with on-site childcare, but I’ve got 8 classes a week to prepare for and teach in less than two months! I decided on books for the 6th grade lit class this week, and need to start working on prepping for writing. And reading the books I have yet to read for literature. *breathes in bag*
I had a down week, and I hardly touched my camera and I think the two are related. MUST. TAKE. PICTURES.
The week turned up when two old friends spent the night en route to Peru via Houston. All day, Kate’s been saying she wants to go to Peru, and that she can go by herself, she is big, she just needs someone to put her carseat in the plane. Hi-larious.
One of the debates in the response to FV/NPP/AAT is whether critics are ‘interacting’ with the original authors, and whether they are doing so in a Christian-ly way.*
I think the root of the debate is over the definition of ‘interact’. The anti-FV guys, and their writings, claim to ‘interact’ with the FV. Yet, the FV guys will describe how they tried to contact the author, how they were never contacted or allowed to defend themselves, etc…
After seeing being defenders and detractors pollute the blogosphere with comments, it seems apparent that to the FV/pro-FV side, “interact” means “calls, emails, visits, or otherwise contacts the individual/writing being discussed”. To the anti-FV side, it appears that “interact” is limited to mean “properly footnote my claims.”
Understanding this, perhaps FV/pro-FV will have more patience with the anti-FV side when they claim to have ‘interacted’. Perhaps also, it will help the anti-FV crowd understand how they might modify their methods to be more persuasive.
