Read in March

How Right You Are, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse
Into each year, some Bertie must be read. (Listened to the audiobook on the way to North Carolina.) 8.5/10

I Am America (and So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert
I am a cliched white person: I love the Colbert Report and thought this book was hilarious. Some chapters are worth reading over and over. 8/10

White Teeth by Zadie Smith
I liked this book, the fragmented relationships and the threads that tie people together were interesting and overall I found it well written. It did have some slower parts. In the world of contemporary novels, it’s a good read, and it’s remarkable when you consider the age and experience of the author. 9/10

Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne
Read with my literature students, for the first time. I enjoyed it, and really enjoyed contemplating the idea of a novel published as a serial and everyone reading it with great interest. Oh, how times have changed… 8/10

The Silence

March has been a month of intense experiences in every direction. We enjoyed spending time with family in North Carolina and hosting J.T. here. I diligently smocked and constructed Easter dresses. We delighted in a wonderful crowd for Easter dinner. There’s also been pain and sorrow, disappointment and dark clouds. But as the sun shines, spring bursts forth around us, we cling to the hope of Easter and know that all things are being made new.

I’m also hoping the blog neglect ends soon. Thanks for sticking around.

Christ is Risen!

“It is finished!” Sinners hear it;
Tis the dying Victor’s cry;
“It is finished!” Angels bear it,
Bear the joyful truth on high:
“It is finished!” Tell it through the earth and sky!

Justice, from her awful station,
Bars the sinner’s peace no more;
Justice views with approbation
What the Savior did and bore;
Grace and mercy now display their boundless store.

“It is finished!” All is over;
Yes, the cup of wrath is drained;
Such the truth these words discover;
Thus the victory was obtained;
‘Tis a victory none but Jesus could have gained.

Crown the mighty Conqueror, crown him,
Who his people’s foes o’ercame!
In the highest heaven enthrone him!
Men and angels sound his fame!
Great his glory! Jesus bears a matchless name.
–Thomas Kelly, 1769-1855

Madness

Here’s a link to our annual NCAA tournament challenge group. The password is “tclmadness”

We’re having a good holy week but I need to get my dresses finished!

Update

I finished my quarter grades, but I’ve been busy trying to clean and organize a bit, work on Easter dresses, plan Easter dinner, and finish my photography website. Check it out! If you live in the Raleigh area and are interested in a half-hour shoot next week, drop me an email.

I still need to post about my February books. Yikes. Maybe I’ll do that later today when I don’t have Lexi on my lap.

A Second Try

Praying for the Carolina Family

Student Body President Eve Carson was murdered in what seems to be a random act of violence off campus, in Chapel Hill.

I’ve been thinking all afternoon about what to write, but all I can say is that I am praying for her family as well as students, faculty, staff, and those in campus ministry in this difficult time.

Odds & Ends

This have been a crazy week. I got sick Monday. Short stomach thing. No fun. Among other busy-ness, my grades are due Friday.

Amanda made TPWC Sherried Tomato Soup for community group. To die for!

New Obama video by will.i.am & friends, it wasn’t enough yesterday.

Another positive review of The Jesus Storybook Bible.
